Appendix G. Chemical characteristics of the alluvial and marine terrace soils used to pot seedlings collected from the study area for growing in glasshouse conditions before planting into deer exclosures.

Table G1 summarizes some chemical properties of soils collected from the alluvial and marine terraces at Waitutu Forest and transported to Lincoln to grow seedlings in. Four replicate samples of the soil from each terrace used in the potting were analyzed by the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory (Palmerston North, New Zealand) for the following nine variables, using the methods outlined in Blakemore et al. (1987): pH, % total C, % total N, C:N, Bray II P, and exchangeable Ca, Mg, K, and Na.
