Quadratic models were used when they were better fits than linear models for a given trait-environment combination. Results from quadratic models are presented with pale gray backgrounds. The (+) or (-) signs next to each R² value indicates the direction of the relationship, respectively positive or negative for linear models, and hump-shaped or U-shaped for quadratic models.
