Observed variance of the nearest-neighbor distance (VAR-NND) among coexisting leaf-litter ant assemblage for four Atlantic Forests, generated by randomly choosing without replacement from the regional species pool (171 species) the same number of species found at each site, using two different procedures: (1) assuming that all localities have the same probability of colonization by each ant species (null model 1); (2) assuming that the probability of a species to be chosen is equal to the number of occupied sites (null model 2). Pindicates the probability of the assemblages shows morphological divergence (PMD) or morphological aggregation (PMA). PMD = ((the number of randomized VAR-NND < the observed VAR-NND) + 1)/(the number of randomizations + 1);  PMA = ((the number of randomized VAR-NND > the observed VAR-NND) + 1)/(the number of randomizations + 1). We reject the null hypothesis when PMD or PMA is lower than 0.025 (in bold).
