Appendix A. View of the main
nesting area at the Shoup Bay Black-legged Kittiwake (Rissa tridactyla)
colony at Prince William Sound, Alaska. Most of the kittiwakes pictured are on
cliff nests. The colony is situated on a rock island that emerged from beneath
a receding tidewater glacier. Glaucous-winged Gulls (Larus glaucescens),
also pictured, nest and roost on the top of the island. Photo from July 1994,
