Experimental manipulations included mowing (cover) and supplemental feeding (food) in a 2 X 2 factorial design with 4 replicates. Elevation (2 replicates upslope and 2 downslope) used as a third factor, but only included in tables if it had a significant main effect or a significant interaction with food or cover.
