   Notes: Individual plant was included as a blocking factor. For 1997, this analysis considered the subset of plants that had both open- and hand-pollinated flowers (see Materials and Methods: Field sampling). For Península, 1997, pollen tube counts from the few flowers opening in December were excluded from the analysis because only styles from control flowers could be collected for that month. Because data sets were not completely balanced, F values were estimated from Type III sums of squares (SAS 1988).
