Appendix F. Fit of the Gaussian distribution to daily displacement distance measured for Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis.
We parameterize the redistribution kernel using a frequency distribution of daily displacement distance measured for Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis at two rocky subtidal sites with weak currents (Dumont et al. 2006). A Gaussian distribution with a mean of 0 and a standard deviation of 1.33 provided the best fit (r2 = 0.97) to the data (Fig. F1).
