Appendix A. Light parameter equations.

Parameters for beta distributions of light availability on a given plot were obtained by moment matching. The mean light availability for plot j is equated to the mean of a beta density  for parameters a_j and b_j. We likewise equate variances and obtain the beta parameters  and  Beta parameters define a distribution of light availability for each plot.
