powerlawtail.txt -- R code needed to derive the power-law tail probability density function.

tracksim.txt -- R code needed to simulate tracks based on the power-law tail probability density function.

The powerlawtail.txt R code generates an idealized Lévy flight power-law tail probability density function based on

µ= 2 and= 1. The code also provides a sampling 'check' function to determineµ from the relationship between the log of the step length frequencies and the log of the step lengths (corrected for the appropriate binning procedure as discussed in Appendix A and the main text of the paper). The tracksim.txt R code uses the idealized Lévy flight power-law tail probability density function to simulate animal movement tracks over 365 days assuming random turn angles after each step.
